Happy Chinese New Year!

This Friday is Chinese New Year, following the Lunar Calendar that goes back thousands of years. Many other cultures follow this as well so happy new year to you too:)
Many of you might see the Super Bowl as the next significant event this week, just for the commercials alone it is. If you are hosting a party we got you covered, John has a bunch of great beer, I’m stocked up onwhatever wine you will need and Steve has some fresh cigars coming in for full relaxation mode to commence.

For this weeks tasting we have Liz Calvey of Andes Imports. She represents some staple wines we have carried since the Kurt days, Hoopes Cabernet & Chardonnay, Apaltagua Chardonnay and Pacifico-Sur wines just to name a few. As always 2:30 to 5:30pm. is the time to taste, this lineup will feature a range of pricing and styles, don’t miss it!

John will have another great Beer tasting for us Thursday from 4 – 7pm.,and on another note he will expound more about the Spencer Trappist Aleand when we should expect more of it in the store.

Again this week in the New Arrivals section of the newsletter details about the Wine Classes we will be holding for 5 Wednesdays starting February 12th. will be available. You can sign up for one class or thewhole series, and the last class, Food pairing with Chef Peter Capalboat the Wenham Tea House should be a fun event to bring a friend or significant other to.

Join us for dinner at the Wenham Tea House this and every FridayEvening from 5-9pm. Chef Peter Capalbo (Formerly of Tryst In Beverly) will be cooking up great food including his famous Rosemary Chicken entree and Lump Crab cake. With the bounty of ingredients fromHenry’s Market along with fresh local fish this is by far the best thing happening for dinner north of Boston Friday Nights. It is a 3 course Prix Fix (Price Fixed) Dinner, with at least 5 choices on each course, plus afull liquor license and a custom wine list by you know who to make this a special experience. If you have joined us, come again, if you have not had the pleasure, do yourself a favor and come on down. Call the Wenham Tea House at 978-468-1398 and make a reservation now!

Fun Wine Fact;

The Carménère grape is a wine grape variety originally planted in the Médoc region of Bordeaux, France, where it was used to produce deep red wines and occasionally used for blending purposes in the same manner as Petit Verdot.

A member of the Cabernet family of grapes, the name “Carménère” originates from the French word for crimson (carmin) which refers to the brilliant crimson color of the autumn foliage prior to leaf-fall. The grape is also known as Grande Vidure, a historic Bordeaux synonym, although current European Union regulations prohibit Chilean imports under this name into the European Union. Along with Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit verdot, Carménère is considered part of the original six red grapes of Bordeaux, France.

Now rarely found in France, the world’s largest area planted with this variety is in Chile in South America, with more than 8,800 hectares (2009) cultivated in the Central Valley. As such, Chile produces the vast majority of Carménère wines available today and as the Chilean wine industry grows, more experimentation is being carried out on Carménère’s potential as a blending grape, especially with Cabernet Sauvignon.

Carménère is also grown in Italy’s Eastern Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia regions and in smaller quantities in the California and Walla Walla region of Washington State.

North Shore Restaurant, Best Brunch on North Shore MA

So lately my life has been quite busy (I am newlywed and have a 2 month old baby boy!), but that certainly does not mean we slow down at the Tea House.  If anything, we are just ramping up for this year.
We just unveiled our new lunch menu, which includes tasty dishes such as Chicken Valdostanna, Tuscan Salad, Salad Lyonnaise, Rigatoni Pomodoro and more!  We also revamped our cover, so we hope you enjoy the new dishes and layout when you visit us next!
We are currently booking for Valentine’s Day dinner, which lands on a Friday night this year (lucky us!).  We are putting the final touches on the menu currently, and I will be unveiling it in a special email in the coming days to invite everyone down for a very special dinner.
For Valentine’s Day, we will be holding two seatings one at 6pm and one at 8pm.  We are booking reservations at 5:45, 6:00 and 6:15 and 7:45, 8:00 and 8:15pm.  We are currently booking up all ready, so be sure to call us for a reservation at 978-468-1398.
Also for the Sunday before Valentine’s Day, we are holding a very special Valentine’s Sweetheart  Teaon Sunday, February 9th from 3:30-5:00pm.  We are welcoming back Carol Littlefield McIntyre, from Harp for All Occasions (www.carolmcintyre.orgto strumbeautiful harp music as you enjoy a fine selection of sparkling wine Poinsettias, loose leaf tea, delicious tea sandwiches and decadent sweet goods.  Price is $35 per person and does not include tax or gratuity.
Recently, we have been undergoing a few operational changes for the Tea House.  Beginning next week, I will be offering a private room for you to enjoy.  We will be able to sit between 12-16 people in the new private room.  The room is located where we used to locate our bakery items (or a bar if you visited us for a private function!).
For those of you worried about our bakery offerings, we will still offer all the same treats and delicious snacks that you’ve come used to, just in a different area of the Tea House gift shop.
Lastly, I am thinking about conducting a Saturday night dinner service.  I have met with my Friday Night dinner staff and we feel as though we should have an offering on Saturday nights for you.  But, I have some questions:
  • Would you attend Saturday Night dinners?\
  • Are you more apt to join us on a Friday or a Saturday?
  • For Friday Night dinner guests, would you like to see something changed for Saturday Night Dinners?
For our Afternoon Tea guests, I have a great bit of news for you!  If we do commence with Saturday Night dinners, I will be offering a very special Afternoon Tea service from 2:30-4:15pm every Saturday.  Once Saturday Night Dinners are running to our satisfaction, we will begin building our schedule to accommodate Saturday Afternoon Teas.
The patio will be opening up when weather permits.  Hopefully April, but years past has told us more likely May.  We do have the addition of our outdoor heaters now, so we will see!
And as always, I am always open for suggestions.  If you like something and wished we did more of it, let me know!  If you have a suggestion fore change, please feel free to e-mail me or call me at 9078-468-1398.  We strive everyday to be the best restaurant we can be for all of our guests.
Reservations can be had by calling us at 978-468-1398 for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or Friday Night dinner.
