Fall Festivals and Happenings on the North Shore

Fall is one of our most favorite times of year here on the North Shore of Massachusetts.  The weather has cooled and weekends can be spent exploring our beautiful little corner of New England.  Visiting farm stands, corn mazes, and spending a lazy afternoon apple picking are some of our preferred activities.  We invite you to start your day with us at the Tea House with a warm cup of coffee and a scrumptious meal before you head out to enjoy the many fall festivals and activities that this area has to offer.

  • Farm FunConnors Farm in Danvers, Massachusetts offers a “Wild West” themed corn maze this year.  Get lost for hours or use the hints to find your way out quickly.  Traditional hayrides, pumpkin picking and cider donuts are always a popular treat!  If you are more adventurous, take a ride on their mechanical bull, watch the piglets race the track or even try out the “destruction zone” where you can sling pumpkins using a huge sling shot or shoot corn out of a large cannon.  There is something for everyone at our neighbor’s farm.  Connor’s is right down the road from the Tea House and offers you a great chance to relax on our patio after a day at the farm.
  • Historical Sites – The North Shore is not lacking in some amazing historical sites from the longest running Art Colony in Gloucester to the Historical downtown of Salem. The area has so much to offer.  Visit New England gives excellent guidance when choosing the historical sites that interest you the most.  Don’t forget about the first period home right across the street at the Wenham Museum.   It will bring you back to the colonial days!
  • Sea and Sun – There are many seaports to visit from the historical Salem Harbor where the Friendship resides to the picturesque lighthouses in Gloucester Harbor.  Check out the list f harbor cruise and whale watching excursions on North of Boston.
  • Wenham Oktoberfest – Don’t miss out of the Wenham Tea House Oktoberfest!  September 27th from 3-5 pm join us for a fun day of German music, food and delicious beers under the tent as we help support the Wounded Warrior Project. Over 15 different beers will be available! A portion of the proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.

North Shore Fall Foliage Drives

September is a time for back-to-school shopping, cool, crisp weather and, for us New Englanders, an explosion of fall foliage like nowhere else in the world.  Autumn signals a change of pace here in Wenham and across the North Shore of Massachusetts.  We delight in long drives to “leaf peep.” we overindulge in cider donuts and spend hours walking lazily through corn mazes.  We have compiled a list of some of our favorite places to view the leaf “fireworks” – so to speak.  We invite you to join us at the Wenham Tea House for a delicious meal before you head out to explore the beauty of the North Shore in Autumn.

  • Yankee Magazine Fall Foliage Map – Our friends at Yankee Magazine have compiled a map of the area illustrating how the color rolls through New England from September through the end of October.  Please feel free to use this map to begin plotting out a lackadaisical Sunday drive.  Yankee Foliage. As the map changes, so will the calendar as it highlights the approximate peak dates for different parts of the region. They even recommend driving routes where you can easily plan your breakfast or lunch stop at the Wenham Tea House.
  • Massachusetts InstaFoliage is a great website to plan your fall foliage trip.  Sponsored by Mass Vacation, this site provides not only driving routes, but current weather conditions and valuable lists of places to stay and visit along your trip  They even have streaming video to show you the kaleidoscope of color you can expect to see in that region.
  • North of Boston This web site resource can help you plan your drive depending upon your interests from beaches and lighthouses to farms and historical sites. They even highlight Route 1A that takes you right past the beautiful farms, lake and sites of Wenham Massachusetts.  And, of course past our wonderful Tea House!

Get out and enjoy a lazy drive this fall to enjoy the crisp air and spectacular show our trees put on for us this time of year.  Don’t forget to make the Wenham Tea House part of your trip!
